Woman & Phone Booth in Arrowtown

Arrowtown, now a major tourist trap, was originally a gold rush town. It still retains some charm. The red phone booths seen throughout New Zealand are reminiscent of jolly Olde England. Scenes from Lord of the Rings were filmed near Arrowtown.

Did you know that there are more Chinese than Maoris in NZ? You must have noticed all the Oriental noodle shops and restaurants. It always cracked me up to see everyone: Maori,European, Chinese, open their mouth and speak in that charming British accent. (DON'T tell them they speak like the British however!) They were all ever so kind and if we looked lost perfect strangers would stop and ask "Y' alright?" Meaning "Can I help you?"
