Mt Cook From Tasman Downs Station

This is the magnificent view enjoyed daily from the dining room at Tasman Downs Station, owned by Bruce & Linda Hayman a pioneering family. They have a pretty hard life & supplement their income by running a charming B&B in their rambling farmhouse. We shared three bathrooms with two English ladies travelling together. One bathroom had only a toilet; one was a full bath with a tub; and the farthest bathroom (down the hall and around a corner) had a shower. Meals with the Haymans & the other guests were extremely entertaining, as they were all fiercely conservative, loathed Tony Blair and are devoted to the late Princess Diana. Their antipathy to Tony Blair mirrored ours for Bush, which quite surprised us because in our view, Blair is a towering intellect compared to Bush. Our conversations were lively indeed. It was enormous fun. The Haymans are very gracious hosts who made us feel like genuine (as opposed to paying) guests.

I was interested to know Mt. Cook (in the NZ Alps)is about12,000 feet high which I compared to our Mt. Timpanogos here.... but Cook is the more amazing to realize it starts at sea level rather than the 4,000 feet at the foot of Mt. Timp. A side note to the political comments..while we were living in NZ the Queen Mother died and the whole country was in mourning. They adored her as well as Diana. The do not like Queen Elizbeth and she visited while we were there and only about 200 people turned out to see her. She was offended that Prime Minister Helen Clark did not greet her (she was away with NZ affairs) and when she did appear at the dinner planned for the Queen....Helen Clark was in pants. Helen Clark is always in pant suits. That is who she is. NZ loves her.
I always shake my head at people who say such mean, unfounded things about Bush. You are the same kind of person who wants world peace but you can't find a kind thing to say. Peace begins with YOU. Love your enemy.
A stunning location! Had the misfortune to stay there with only my phone camera due to a broken travel adapter! Ah well, will return next time!
